Etsy renewable electricity reached a milestone in 2025. The marketplace says it sourced 100 percent renewable energy for the electricity it can measure across its offices and its remote workforce.
What Etsy renewable electricity covers
According to the company’s impact reporting, the 100 percent figure applies to quantified office and remote work electricity. That is a real achievement, but it is only part of the picture, because most of the footprint of an online marketplace sits in shipping and the seller community.
The climate targets
Etsy says its net zero goal is aligned to the Science Based Targets initiative and approved by it, with a plan to cut emissions 5 to 7 percent a year. It reports that Scope 1 and 2 emissions are down 21 percent since 2020 and that Scope 3 intensity per million dollars of gross profit is down 45 percent. It also met a 2025 goal to cut office energy and computing intensity by 25 percent compared with 2016. All of these are company reported, and the company notes limited third party assurance of its data from PwC.

Money behind the goals
Etsy says it committed about 3.5 million dollars to climate solutions in 2025 and uses an internal carbon price of 100 dollars per metric ton for its own emissions and business travel. A carbon price inside a company pushes managers to count the cost of emissions when they plan.
The honest limit
Back in 2021 Etsy said shipping made up about 98 percent of its marketplace emissions, and it became the first e-commerce company to offset shipping emissions. Shipping remains the hard part. Readers should treat the office milestone as a solid step and watch the shipping numbers in future reports.
