Veolia ecological transformation is the company’s name for its strategy, and its 2024 results show how large the business is. Veolia reports that it provided drinking water to 111 million people and sanitation to 98 million in 2024.
Veolia ecological transformation in numbers
Veolia reported 2024 revenue of 44.7 billion euros, 42 million megawatt hours of energy produced and 65 million tonnes of waste treated, with 215,000 employees on five continents. Its GreenUp plan for 2024 to 2027 targets more than 8 billion euros of EBITDA in 2027. These are company reported figures from its February 2025 results release.
Growth and deals
The company reported synergies of 120 million euros from the Suez deal in 2024. Its press page lists a 1 billion euro, 25 year drinking water services contract in Spain in September 2026 and the completion of the Clean Earth deal in June 2026, which doubles its US hazardous waste business. Issues readers should know
Veolia’s record is not spotless. In 2016 the Michigan Attorney General sued Veolia North America over the Flint water crisis, and Veolia disputed the claims. We did not confirm the outcome. In February 2026 a failure at the Veolia-operated Moa Point plant in Wellington, New Zealand sent about 70 million litres a day of untreated wastewater offshore, according to a reference source with flagged reliability issues, so check that report before relying on it.
Why it matters
Water and waste are the base of any city, and a company operating at this scale influences the sector. Veolia is a useful example of both the opportunity and the accountability that come with running public utilities.
